Launch-week performance tests

Steam Deck HQ reported that the game struggled to hold 30 fps at the lowest settings and judged the experience too demanding for the Deck. RPG Site separately tested a Steam Deck LCD and found that preview SteamOS updates did not solve the poor performance. These are independent tests, not a Valve compatibility guarantee, but they agree that starting the game is not the same as obtaining stable play.

Why the minimum specification matters

EA's minimum PC target pairs 16 GB RAM with a GTX 1080, RX 5600 XT, or Arc B580 for a 1080p/30 Low target. The Deck uses shared memory and a much smaller power budget. Lowering resolution and using upscaling can reduce GPU load, but it cannot guarantee stable CPU-heavy turns, cinematics, or hub traversal.

Buying and testing safely

Check Valve's live compatibility label and recent reports for the current game build. If you test a Steam copy, keep the platform refund window in mind and avoid spending most of it compiling shaders or troubleshooting. Evaluate combat, the Den, and a cinematic rather than judging from the opening menu.

For a local PC, compare hardware against the system requirements. If image compression and network latency are acceptable, the supported GeForce NOW version avoids running the game on Deck hardware.
